Lieve van Loon is a multidisciplinary autonomous designer. She combines illustration, product design and printmaking.
Lieve works from obsessions, obsessions for objects and shapes. During these obsessions, she develops a certain shape language that she then develops further and portrays with different materials and techniques. Lieve does this by reproducing an object or shape over and over again or in a slightly different way and working increasingly larger. This way the obsession becomes visible in her work.
Reshaping plays a big role in Lieve's work. Rescaling, color application, and changing an objects original shape provide new surprising images with which she allows herself to look at her work again. This way she gives her audience space to reflect on the work and to relate to it, with the aim of also becoming reacquainted with the existing things around us.
Lieve doesn’t work from big social themes or concepts, she works from fascinations for objects or shapes. That does not mean that Lieve is not socially committed. Her work is more about her own view on the world. Lieve reflects what she sees. She looks at things with an open, humorous and curious look and then develops a fascination. Everything is possible and it should not be too heavy, rather funny and absurd. Things are distorted or magnified in such a way that it reaches its limit and becomes something of itself. She strips it down or adds something. Then it's finished.
